Australian Made: Why FloatPac values our accreditation
In an era of off-shore manufacturing and dwindling Aussie manufacturing across all industries, the FloatPac team is extremely proud of our Australian Made accreditation. It is not something we take for granted and we wear our accreditation as a badge of honour. But how did we become accredited? What just does “Australian Made” mean for us, and more importantly our customers?
How did we become accredited?
FloatPac Pty Ltd is 100% Australian owned. Our board of Directors meet regularly in Melbourne and not one single cent of our profit goes off-shore. Importantly, we pay all Australian taxes.
FloatPac manufactures ALL our products in our Melbourne based factory. Our 4x4 Diesel bladders, Marine Bladders, Flexidocks, Onion Tanks, Pillow Tanks, RainPac, Marker Buoys, Dam and Pond Liners and Salvage equipment are all manufactured here from materials and fittings sourced locally and internationally. We employ a number of Australians on a full-time basis and also employ a number of casual staff during peak times.
We are accredited as Australian Made as our products are manufactured in Australia.
The definition of “Australian Made” is that the product is substantially transformed in Australia and at least 50 per cent of the cost of production has been incurred in Australia. We actually exceed this, with approximately 83 per cent of our production costs borne in Australia.
To become accredited we must meet a compliance test for each of our products relevant to each use of the Logo to determine which of our products can be promoted with one of the permitted origin claims and the Logo. We are also required to execute a Licensee Undertaking consistent with this Code of Practice confirming that the goods identified on their product list meet the compliance test that applies to the origin claim to be used on each good in conjunction with the Logo, and that our use of the Logo will be in strict accordance with the rules and conditions.
FloatPac must also permit audit activity by AMCL and its audit representatives to ensure that each good bearing the Logo meets the compliance requirements applicable to the origin claim that is made.
Furthermore, we adhere to Australian Made policies and procedures in our office and factory, maintain a technical file that sets out our compliance and technical features of our products. A financial file demonstrates our operating costs, turnover and sales figures to ensure we comply by employing Australian staff and manufacturing in Australia, while also demonstrating our sales figures so we pay our appropriate licensing fee.
We pay a licencing fee to the Australian Made organisation which is a Not-For-Profit organisation charged with developing and promoting Australian Made products. The famous gold kangaroo on a green triangle logo we proudly reproduce on our website and marketing collateral is a registered trademark and legally enforceable with third party accreditation. According to AustralianMade.com .au the logo is also registered in China, South Korea and the USA, with registration pending in Singapore. It is used by more than 2000 companies on more than 15,000 products sold around the world and more than one third of the companies registered to use the logo use it in export market.
What does Australian Made mean for us?
We’re extremely proud of our accreditation and it means we are producing a product in Australia that meets and exceeds Australian conditions they will be used in. Products such as our 4x4 Diesel flexitanks, pond liners, onion tanks and RainPac are subjected to climatic and physical extremes and we’re proud that these products stand up to the rigours of their intended use with appropriate warranties to protect our customer’s investment.
What does Australian Made mean for our customers?
Trust! Our customers can buy from us with confidence, knowing they are buying form an Australian owned company that manufactures products in Australia to an extremely high standard. Yes there are international options of our products available to consumers, most of which are cheaper, but our quality and competitive price has ensured we’ve stayed in business for over thirty years. Such longevity in Australian manufacturing gives us a great feedback that our product offer, service and price is competitive and appropriate.
TPP Free-trade agreement
Country-of-origin branding is key now the TPP free-trade agreement has been signed. The TPP will significantly reduce trade barriers, opening up new markets for Aussie growers and manufacturers. The Australian Made campaign stated in a recent media release that “Prominent country-of-origin branding will play a key role in driving sales in the Pacific region, which has demonstrated increasing demand for Australian products and produce.” It is important that FloatPac, like other manufacturers, make the most of the marketing opportunity presented. The use of the Australian Made logo on our products ensures we’re recognised both here in Australia and increasingly on the international stage. It’s a reputation we’re proud to add to.
Essentially, the Australian Made recognition is a key component of FloatPac’s offer: great solutions to clients. A solution based approach, our amazing engineering feats, our Australian Made accreditation, extreme quality assurance methods, and 34 year manufacturing history, provide us and our customer’s with the ultimate satisfaction.
